I had the unfortunate luck of buying an HPOfficeJet Pro 8025 All-in-One last year during the pandemic after my previous printer died. I spent a few weeks researching the best home office printer for my needs and ultimately decided on the HP 8025. I purchased this printer in June along with a backup pack of ink cartridges for a total of $225. The printer worked fine out of the box with the ink cartridges that came with it until December 2020 when the ink ran out. I popped the new ink cartridges in the printer to print a Christmas gift and the cyan and magenta cartridges did not work. I was annoyed but figured I'd deal with it after the holidays since the black cartridge still worked and I was busy.
Fast forward two weeks after Christmas and I was dealing with a host of medical issues and ultimately diagnosed with cancer. I have been undergoing medical treatment for the past 6 months and my printer issues were the least of my worries. I have used my printer on and off over the course of 2021 to print medical forms and things but only used black and white printing, so did not notice the color was still an issue. Now I am done with medical treatment and will be starting up school in the fall, so I wanted to make sure my printer was up to snuff. Turns out the cyan and magenta are still not printing, so I decided to clean the printheads. Nothing. I have cleaned them 10+ times and run every diagnostic report to no avail. This past week, I took my printer to Office Depot to see if they could diagnose it. This was when I learned of the 910 ink cartridge recall from late last year on the cyan and yellow cartridges. The associate at the store was kind enough to give me new color ink cartridges thinking this would solve the problem. Nope. Cyan and magenta still not working and the yellow is now printing streaky. Not sure why I had an issue with magenta, since this was not part of the recall.
My only solution left was to contact HP customer service because the issue is clearly with the printer itself. Well, what do you know? My printer is 10 days past warranty. They say there is nothing they can do. They don't advise buying a new printhead because the part is expensive and they won't replace it or the printer itself because of it being out of warranty. The HP support rep that I spoke with told me to just buy a new printer. I asked if I could speak with her supervisor and was told that he would just end up telling me the same thing and that there was nothing they can do.
I have wasted countless time and money on a printer that I have used to print less than 150 pages and is barely over a year old. I threw $225 down the drain during a pandemic in which I was laid off for 2 months and then 6 months later had to go on disability due to illness. I am pissed and severely disappointed that this is what constitutes "customer service" these days. I feel completely helpless on this issue and don't know who else to contact at HP to correct this situation (which is why I am posting this here). HP should be ashamed that they even put a printer this malfunctioning on the market during a time when people are so dependent on home technology. If HP cannot resolve this issue, then I will make sure they never receive another cent from me. They used to be who I relied on for printers but after this experience, I will have to look elsewhere.
