5x7 paper won't print

I'm trying to print on a 5x7 plain piece of paper for an insert to an invitation.  If I put this paper in the main tray, it jams every time.  If I put it in the photo tray (AND change the preferences to say photo tray and 5x7), it still pulls all paper from the main tray.  Any advice?  This is not a photograph.
