I purchased my printer in July/August 2012 from Costco.
Setup was a breeze, It worked fine with my wifes Mac, my HP as well as our iphone devices.
We do not use our all in one setup much. Perhaps about once or twice a week max.
I first experienced my PRINTER FAILURE problem 6 weeks ago, after I printed a report.
I tried printing another report and the printer screen showed *PRINTER FAILURE. No error code shown- very strange.
I attempted the 2 step suggestions the printer screen made, nothing worked.
It was not a connectivity problem whatsoever. It is a hardware/inner software problem.....
In other words, if I wanted to use the 6700 as a mere copier- it wouldn't function.
The PRINTER FAILURE notice appears on the screen.
About every 2 weeks I tried the same techniques suggested, searched the boards/web and found nothing specific.
Since I hardly use the printer I was able to ignore this inconvenience until now.
I contacted the HP 1-800 because I could find nothing effective.
The first person I came in contact with was Menish.
Menish is very nice, but he is a robot. He kept asking about operating systems. I stated it was not a connectivity problem, it is a printer/inner hardware/software problem. Operating systems have nothing to do with my problem.
He insisted, then transferred me to Carlo.
Carlo was very nice also, but not truly helpful (my problem still remains WITH no explaination).
He asked me my purchase date (I don't keep my receipts right in front of me) and where I purchased the device.
After repeating everything suggested previously which I've already done numerous times, for the sake of entertaining Carlo I did it one more time. I needed to get the serial number and my printer is in a awkward place, so I had to rotate it sideways to obtain the info- my printer leaked black ink during that process! (there were no signs of leaks prior to that!)
Anyways..... in the end I was told that it is out of warranty.
He offered for me to trade in/upgrade to a newer refurbished model for a minimal charge.
But should that be the case?
If I had a black box attached to this printer, the proof would show I hardly use this printer.
I had HP products prior to this one, hence my comfort with purchasing this 6700.
But after 1 year, It's now bad/non-functional? Is that the shelf-life of printers nowadays?????
My money is important to me. Why should I buy another printer after only 1 year???
Suggestions?
I'm open.
In the meanwhile I'm very disappointed with this HP product.
I'm strongly leaning towards purchasing Epson/Canon if I can't get the help or replacement from HP.
