I recently moved my office. We had ATT Universe installed with 3 lines The third line is a dedicated fax line.
The following conditions are met:
1) A DSL filter was installed to basically isolate the two wires so only two wires go to the fax. (I do not actually have DSL service)
2) The Fax was set at the lowest possible baud rate (9600)
3) EEC (Electronic Error Correction) was turned off
The problem is that if a fax comes in the line appears to 'never hang up'. People calling in or trying to fax get a 'This line is disconnected or not in service' message. It stays this way until I physically unplug the phone line from the fax and then plug it back in. This hangs up the line and allows the next fax to come in.
I can fax out and can use HP Fax Test and get a response from HP but then the line stays off-hook and no one else can call in without the 'Line Disconnected' message.
Does anyone know a fix for this? I am now a week without a working fax machine.
I should mention that the HP 8600 worked flawlessly with analog lines at our other office. It seems to be a compatibility issue with ATT Universe.
