Printer won't print text from computer page

Although the computer is properly set up and will print a test page, it will not print anything from the computer other than the page number in the Upper right hand corner of the page and the words "file///C:/Users/marianne/App  etc.  How do I fix the problem?  The computer is properly attached to the printer and the printer has been proerly installed as the computer's only printer.  Thanks, Mariann,
