Photosmart c309g Sometimes Prints

I have a Photosmart c309g-m printer connected wirelessly through a netgear wireless router. The printer has a reserved IP address in the router. Setting up the printer in my Linux OS is not a problem. It is recognized, a driver found and assigned, and a test print is done just fine. After that, I can print anything I want. No problem. The problems occur after the printer powers down after being idle for 15 minutes. Sending it a printjob after that results in very little. If I wait long enough (mabe 10 minutes) it may print a couple of lines and spit the paper out. Printer status messages say, at first, that the printer "may not be connected". The message may change later to "processing". But, nothing happens. If I turn the printer off and back on, it will print until it sleeps again. If I connect the printer directly to the wireless router with an ethernet cable (turning off the wireless radio), it works just fine. I can live with this if necessary, but would like to find out why it's not working as it should. I tried turning off the energy saving feature, but that has no effect on the problem.

I would welcome any suggestions.
